Our Locomotives

Operational

FR Mary Ann 2011 - Simplex 4w petrol. Built from a Wrightlines "special edition" kit as seen running in 2011. Mary Ann runs on a Tenshodo motor and painted by Chris Clark who has done an excellent job which features some extra items not with the kit.

FR Merddin Emrys 1992 - Our first Wrightlines Double Fairlie. Merddin Emrys is based on it's 1992 oil fired livery. Today appearance looks a lot different with various things changed every time it went to Boston Lodge for maintenance. Painted by Chris Clark which like with Mary Ann has done an  excellent job from it's old livery which after years of use needed a repaint.

FR Blanche - Hunslet 2-4-0ST. Bought complete of a friend which is an old Kenlines kit, not the standards of todays EDM kits but does the job.

FR Small England Palmerston 2008 Like Prince , Palmerston is also built from the Mercian Models kit. Both were professionally built by a model maker and is also a George England 0-4-0STT.

FR Large England Welsh Pony - Another Mercian Models George England loco to be built as Welsh Pony carrying the splendid Victorian livery it currently wears. This alongside our other two will make it so we have all three operational England's running on the real railway. Alongside Upnor Castle Welsh Pony also has DCC sound and will eventually form a base to have every steam loco we own to have DCC sound.

FR Britomart - Hunslet 0-4-0ST. Built from a Wrightlines "Pen" Hunslet kit, running on a Dapol Pug motor and is the first kit owned and built. After all these years it still runs like clockwork.

FR David Lloyd George 2019 - Modified Wrightlines Double Fairlie. David Lloyd George will be one of three working Double Fairlies to run on the layout. The model is constructed using part Wrightlines and part scratch built where necessary by a good friend who has done an outstanding job.

Chaloner - De Winton 0-4-0VBT. This is a Wrightlines kit painted by Chris Clark as Chaloner which is running on the Ffestiniog. As it's only there as a guest Chaloner won't see much use but will be found occasionally hauling short trains.

LB 'Ruston & Hornsby 'L203' - This is a 3D resin body on a Tenshodo motor. This one won't see much use but like Chaloner will be used as a guest. It's based on the one that is/was found on the Golden Valley Light Railway.

WHHR Russell 2000s Livery - Hunslet 2-6-2T. built from the Chivers/Slimrails kit to a high standard purchased of a friend, although the real Russell hasn't ventured up to Rhiw Goch in years we're either hoping one day it will again or use modellers licence.

FR Taliesin III 2008 - 0-4-0T Single Fairlie. Built from a started EDM Models kit to 2008 / 2009 livery as found running on the FR by a good friend. What makes this different is the coal bunker attachment not seen on other models.

FR Moel y Gest - 4 wheeled, 60hp 4wDH locomotive. This is a 3D printed model by Chris Ward on a Tenshodo motor repainted by Chris Clark. Although the real railway use it as the Boston Lodge shunter we will use modellers licence on ours.

FR Upnor Castle - A Worsley Works "scratch aid" kit of Upnor Castle, built by a friend. This along side Harlech Castle will form part of the Permanent Way (PW) trains that operate during the quite months. Upnor is the first loco in the fleet to be fitted with sound.

Hunslet Velinheli Wrightlines Hunslet adapted to create Velinheli as found operating on the FR currently.

Kerr Stuart 4415 - A Worsley Works Kerr Stuart 4415 based on the original that's currently being restored on the Ffestiniog by a group of volunteers. DCC equipped and eventually will have sound installed.

Gravity Slate Train

FR Gravity Slate Train - Made up of a mixture of 2T and 3T slate wagons forming a rake. The Ffestiniog Railway's slate train runs with a large number of wagons. Our layout won't feature that many due to the size, but enough get the Slate Train feel.

Under Overhaul

FR Small England Prince 2008 - George England 0-4-0STT built from a Mercian Models kit along with Palmerston. Prince is modelled to a older livery not worn by prince as of 2019 current. Currently out for body repairs which will be completed very soon. Overhaul queue No.1

FR James Spooner II 2023 - Built from an adapted Wrightlines Kit with EDM chassis and painted in the real paint found on James Spooner II running on the FR. The pride of our loco fleet when it's completed.

Stored

FR Lyd - L&B 2-6-2T. Lyd is built from a Alan Gibson brass kit. Will eventually be rolled out in Southern Green numbered 190 as can be found running on the real railway.

Baldwin 608 - WD Baldwin 4-6-0T. This WD Baldwin is a Wrightlines kit with modified chassis, eventually it will become 608 which has recently made it's way to the Ffestiniog. With that in mind when an unbuilt kit came for sale it had to be purchased.

 Future Kits

FR Earl of Merioneth II - To be acquired, when is anyone's guess. As the real one is now stored somewhere on the Ffestiniog for the foreseeable future it makes sense to have one so the model can continue to run.

Mountaineer III - Original Small England  new build replica. This will be a PW kit and built as an exact replica of the one being built at the moment
